Researchers at the National Institute for Preventive Archaeological Research INRAPP) told AFP Tuesday that the remains, which date back to some 200,000-500,000 200,000-500,000 years agor, a complete pelvincludebones and femurconnected vertebrae.
For example, both marine nine- and three-spined sticklebacks have a complete pelvis, but several different freshwater populations in both species have undergone a genetically based reduction - or even total loss - of the pelvic girdle and associated spines [ 16– 16].
Of two specimens found in the quarry, one – CM 84 – was better preserved, with a right femur, a near-complete pelvis and an apparently unbroken series of 41 hefty vertebrae.
Scientists led by Sileshi Semaw of Indiana University in Bloomington found the fossilised fragments of the near-complete pelvis at Gona in the Afar region of Ethiopia, where some of the most important early human fossils have been unearthed.

However, in the restricted space of the pelvis, complete resection of a large rectal GIST is difficult and often necessitates abdominoperineal resection or intersphincteric resection (ISR), with or without adjacent organ resection.

Patients with contraindications to CT should receive a scanning protocol that includes the complete abdomen and pelvis (Fig. 1).
Except for the sequence of the multiphase study of the liver, sequences have to be adapted to cover the complete abdomen and pelvis.
For baseline staging (before onset of therapy), the CT protocol should be triphasic consisting of a non-enhanced phase, an arterial phase, and a portal venous phase of the liver with the portal venous phase covering the complete abdomen and pelvis.
"This is the most complete female Homo erectus pelvis ever found from this time period," Dr Semaw said.
