Detailed outbreak investigations and collection of additional data (compilation of line-lists) are recommended to describe the epidemiology and the age distribution of the epidemic, to guide rapid and effective reactive immunization campaigns and to target the most appropriate age groups.
Our compilation of experimental data identified 15 additional carbon sources that are utilized by all free-living enterobacteria (alpha-D-Glucose, D, L-Malic Acid, D-Alanine,D-Fructose,D-Fructose-6-Phosphate, D-Galactose, D-Glucose-1-Phosphate, D-Glucose-6-Phosphate, D-Ribose, Inosine, L-Aspartic Acid, L-Glutamic Acid, L-Serine, N-Acetyl-D-Glucosamine, Pyruvic Acid, and Uridine).
A covering letter plus enclosures, comprising the care pathways overview diagram ('Appendix 1 [see Additional file 1]'), the full care pathways document ('Appendix 2 [see Additional file 2]'), the compilation of the randomised evidence and the comprehensive questionnaire and summary document, was sent to 47 people in early October 2002.
The data retrieval and compilation for MoccaDB has involved the following steps: (1) extraction of data from various sources (publications, public databases etc).; (2) development and testing of additional new markers in Rubiaceae species; (3) compilation, elimination of marker redundancy, BLAST annotation; (4) insertion into the database.

In order to compare the position of MAV insertion sites identified by FISH and PCR, we have calculated the physical localization of the Nals on each corresponding chromosome and found a fairly good match between the two sets of results (See additional file 1: Compilation of cytogenetic data obtained from FISH analysis).
