Compilation... compilers?
An article in The Arts yesterday about a compilation of short films by 11 directors inspired by the events of Sept. 11 misstated the name of a previous work by one filmmaker, Mira Nair.
"It is clear that urgent reform of the Libor compilation process is required," said Martin Wheatley, managing director of the Financial Services Authority, the British regulator that will conduct the review.
Burgess is the director of the International Shark Attack File, a compilation of all known shark attacks that is administered by the American Elasmobranch Society and the Florida Museum of Natural History, on the UF campus.
Guest artists include Michael Feinstein ("How Long Will It Last?"), French singer and songwriter Georges Moustaki ("Ma Solitude") and director Gus Van Sant ("Moon River"); the compilation also features remixes by New York City disc jockey Johnny Dynell ("Una Notte a Napoli") and Hiroshi Wada ("Kikuchiyo to Mohshimasu").
It so happens I just finished watching Josef Von Sternberg's "Underworld" (1927), the first in a compilation of three silent classics from famed director Josef Von Sternberg, now out via the esteemed Criterion Collection.
The New York Film Festival has seized on a great idea in programming shorts: plucking several of the best works from the "10 Minutes Older" compilation, a collection of short films by major directors that was first featured at the Cannes International Film Festival earlier this year.

Director Joshua Neale has created a lovely compilation of touching (in every sense) moments in this advert for Chinese telecommunication company Huawei.
Their first project will be Elena (2011), from director Andrey Zvyagintsev, followed by a compilation of the Quay Brothers animated short films, set to be released in the fall.
