Despite some easing in the overall chemistry job market, the market for faculty jobs remains "extremely competitive," notes C&EN's Susan Ainsworth, in one of those articles.
"In the past six to eight weeks, we've had at least three deals with midsize financial institutions that are first-time outsourcers aiming to re-engineer their businesses to be competitive," notes Natarajan.
"At Snypr, our mission is to make individual sports practice more fun, social and virtually competitive," notes Doug Appleton, CEO of Snypr, an Innovation Endeavors-backed startup that is building wearable sensors for different sports, starting with Lacrosse.
His father recalled that he was extremely competitive, noting that Terry hated to lose so much that he would continue at any activity until he succeeded.
But along with other awards hopefuls, like Viola Davis, they have tried to strike a non-competitive note this season; Ms. Davis came to the "Albert Nobbs" premiere and later introduced Ms. Streep when she received an award at the New York Film Critics Circle.
Even today, with cuckoo numbers in steep decline, people in the countryside compare mildly-competitive notes in April about hearing the first one of the year.
"HTC's decline was a result of competitive pressures -- note how Samsung and Apple grew extensively since then -- as well as a series of devices that were too niche-oriented to appeal to a broader audience," IDC's smartphone research manager Ramon Llamas says.
Unlike LinkedIn, Facebook appears to have no plan to offer "premium services" - so the company is highly dependent on its ability to sell and deliver compelling ads (which is a risky and highly competitive market, note that GM recently cancelled at $10M ad campaign on Facebook because it wasn't working).
In accordance with risk stratification protocols, these seven athletes were disqualified from competitive sport (note: one athlete with WPW was successfully ablated and returned to full competition 2 months post-ablation).
"That's making it even more competitive this year," notes Whiteside.
