A review of tribal and federal records as well as lawsuit documents reveals a dizzying array of lowball, non-competitive deals brokered by numerous companies, often entwined with the tribal council and with individual landholders on the reservation.
This process is not new, but is becoming more significant to political and legal authorities as they attempt to broker competitive advantages in conditions of globalisation whilst postponing or avoiding scrutiny by domestic and international bodies.
"If you want to do the analytics to be competitive with a broker, two processors are the best experience possible," says Gibbs. "Theyll run applications faster, and for online investing, speed can be everything".
So in a competitive bidding situation, some brokers recommend that buyers write a letter — part mash note, part college application essay — to the seller.
"It unfairly makes these brokers less competitive" against the big banks, said Mark Yecies, an owner of SunQuest Funding, a mortgage broker and lender in Cranford, N.J. "I will now get paid the same amount to process a plain-vanilla loan as I will a complex loan of equal size that requires more work".
American brokers, under competitive pressure at home that is reducing profit margins, are being drawn to the lucrative potential of Europe, where the idea of a discount broker is still novel, said Stephen Eckett, author of "Investing Online," a leading guide to Internet investment.
A lot of cash changes hands, making accounting difficult and tax evasion a competitive necessity for ticket brokers that want to stay ahead.
These two securities were priced using an industry-standard bid wanted in competition (BWIC) process, soliciting competitive bids from every leading broker and dealer in the relevant securities.
It would be interesting to assess the mechanism in a competitive market, where each broker differentiates, essentially, through its assessment of the risk in purchasing resources.
