Diverse populations of Lutzomyia (Lutzomyia) longipalpis are abundant peridomestically in the yards of rural villages and the low-rise suburbs and shanty towns of many of the drier tropical regions of Latin America, and, unlike most sand fly species, they are competent to transmit a wide range of Leishmania species 2 including L. infantum.
Although mosquitoes from temperate Uruguay and Argentina were competent to transmit DENV, those from subtropical Argentina were more susceptible, displaying the highest virus titters in the head and presenting the highest dissemination of infection and transmission efficiency rates when incubated at 28°C.
All tested Ae. aegypti populations from both subtropical and temperate Argentina and Uruguay were susceptible and competent to transmit DENV-2.
There are different ways of "transmitting" information, right?
The infestation prevalence of ticks infected with rickettsial organisms was four times higher among ground foraging birds than among other bird species, but the two groups were equally competent in transmitting Rickettsia species.
The birds were equally competent in transmitting rickettsiae to larvae, but they did not seem to serve as reservoir hosts for these agents.
This was additional evidence that the 2 bird groups were equally competent in transmitting infection to larvae.
The introduction of Ae. albopictus should therefore be considered as a public health threat, especially because this mosquito is considered highly competent in transmitting various arboviruses [ 12], including chikungunya virus (CHIKV) [ 13, 14], dengue virus (DENV) [ 15, 16] and West-Nile virus (WNV) [ 17].

The temperature thresholds for WNV survival are not documented, but laboratory studies indicate that the ability of competent vectors to transmit the virus is favored by higher temperatures (Dohm et al. 2002) and the vector's temperature-dependent survival pattern.
