Assessing the cultural competence of medical students and physicians identified gaps in knowledge and culturally competent behaviour.
According to Berman (1997), an important factor that fosters the development of prosocial or socially competent behaviour is the type of control that their parents exhibit over their children.
We assessed knowledge with a multiple choice test; and we assessed culturally competent behaviour with items referring to the respondent's actual behaviour in specific situations.
