Overall, 16 milestones are evaluated by a clinical competency committee (CCC).
To create a clinical competency committee (CCC) that (1) centers on the competency-based milestones, (2) is simple to implement, (3) creates competency expertise, and (4) guides remediation and coaching of residents who are not progressing in milestone performance evaluations.
Instead of the episodic program biopsies with site visitor reports, detailed program information forms, and formal residency review committee evaluations that characterized the old accreditation system, the NAS will be based upon annual reports of specific quantitative, trended, performance benchmarks; the ACGME milestones; and an institutional clinical competency committee.
