For employees this may involved comparison of their performance against the contractual duties and responsibilities of their role and in association with competency assessment (knowledge and skills) components of appraisal or individual performance review (IPR) [ 58].
In most offices a raft of mainly pointless, cumbersome tools are used to assess performance, including "competency matrices", appraisal interviews and psychometric testing.
