That, however, is not inevitability.
Inevitability is rarely so compelling: as we watch these supposedly unscripted games, we can't help knowing that by October's end one of so many ghosts -- from Babe to Bucky to Boone -- will slip the pinstripes back on and crush New England's hopes once again.
