To make a cross-specialty comparison of dosing variability, we chose only three major specialties: pediatrics, family medicine and otolaryngology.
However, direct comparison of dosing may not be appropriate as it has been reported that a single 8 mg/kg dose of rapamycin given to mice resulted in a 12 40 ng/mL serum level (36), therefore, more than 100 times higher doses are required in mice to achieve serum levels similar to rapamycin trough levels observed in transplant patients (3 18 ng/mL).
