The WSE added in lesser sardine surimi gel contained higher amount of phenolic compounds, i.e. polyphenols, possessing one or more aromatic rings bearing hydroxyl substituent (Parr and Bolwell 2000), which might have resulted in slight increase in pH of surimi gel in the present investigation which was not significant compared with control surimi gel sample.
Compared with controls (no gel), 0.5% RGD-alginate increased: the percentage of EBs with pigmented RPE foci; the percentage EBs with optic vesicles (OVs) and pigmented RPE simultaneously; the area covered by RPE; frequency of RPE cells (CRALBP+); expression of RPE markers (TYR and RPE65) and the retinal ganglion cell marker, MATH5.
Interestingly, regarding cell migration and depth of invasion, EGCG significantly inhibited cells to invade deeply into the collagen gel compared with control (93±32.3 vs 191.2±33.7 μm, P<0.005) as well as suppressed the cells migrating across the gels surface.
After 24 h of treatment with 2APB, EMT was inhibited, resulting in a significant decrease in the number of cells that transformed and migrated into the collagen gel compared with control explants treated with DMSO (Fig. 4B).
Accordingly, MnSOD activity was also significantly increased (about 40%) in Rat-E cells, compared with control cells, as assessed by gel SOD assay.
As they report today in Nature Materials, the films reduced the presence of eye bags up to 40% for 24 hours, compared with control tests with only the first gel.
DDR1 over-expression enhanced floating collagen gel contraction compared with control and wild type (P<0.01) and by 15-fold (P<0.01) compared with GD25 cells and GD25 cells with DDR1 knockdown (Table 1).
When IL-6 levels were studied, GEL presented a statistically significant at 60AIA (GEL, 331 ± 65) when compared with Control (146 ± 19; P < 0.05).
