The survey results demonstrated that birth asphyxia is perceived by those active in community level programmes as an important newborn health problem and a major public health issue, despite a dearth of data.
For example, interventions to improve the social cognitive skills of youth and family based programmes to enhance parental monitoring of youth, as well as community level programmes such as Ceasefire's efforts to diffuse escalating community violence 42 43 44 and boys and girls clubs' work to provide stable adult mentors 45 could be introduced on this basis.
