This study was undertaken to find out if novice students were able to demonstrate increased satisfaction and self-confidence with medium fidelity simulation in community based roles, as these students have no knowledge of acute care skills at this point in their learning.
Of the 97 clinicians working in community based roles, 52 (53.6%) responded to the survey; of the 23 clinicians in ward based roles, 8 (34.8%) completed surveys were received.
The research focused on job roles where there was greater autonomy in the post (e.g. community based roles) and or where objectives may have been less clear.
Geographical location or level of health facility did not have major effect on the roles being expected or performed, however the factors that determined the roles performed by health providers were employer expectations, preparation of health providers for providing community based care, role clarity and availability of resources including health team at health facilities.
They were of the opinion that the RR and school based programmes must be continued and sustained and the school teachers could additionally assume a community based outreach role for dissemination of the AI messages outside the HHs and the schools.
