In our ageing society, care for older people is one of the greatest challenges in healthcare. 1 2 Evidence suggests that community based care in comparison with institutionalisation may achieve better outcomes at lower costs and is preferred by older people themselves.
Using cross-sectional and child-level fixed effects regression analyses on 1,480 community based OAC and a comparison sample of non-OAC, this manuscript examines associations between emotional difficulties, cognitive development, and a variety of possible co-factors, including potentially traumatic events.
Future research should include multiple intergenerational playgroups of equal numbers set up on the two different models identified in this study for comparison between the community based model and the volunteer model.
