Group Support System (GSS) is a set of techniques, software and technology designed to focus and enhance the communication, deliberations and decision-making of groups.
3. Communication during treatment deliberation and decision There were many cases where the decision making followed a simple pattern in which the clinician gave a unilateral diagnosis/treatment decision based on their own medical reasoning, which the parent accepted [ 35, 61].
This is an example of how non-physician contributions to an established communication format trigger deliberations that improve patient care in several ways- by identifying a lurking problem hidden by the successfully treated main reason for admission, by defining a speedy discharge process, by improving pre-discharge patient education, and by establishing superior patient follow up.
On the other hand, our decision aid does not fully meet the criteria on balancing the presentation of options, clarifying and expressing values, and guiding/coaching in deliberation and communication, although patients will be invited to deliberate about the decision making, and the motivational interviewing in our strategy is meant to help patients clarify and express values.
Public deliberation about communication in personal exposure assessment research suggests that new forms of community-based research ethics and participatory scientific practice are emerging.
Patient decision aids are tools (e.g. pamphlets, videos/DVDs, web-based) that help patients consider treatment options and their outcomes, clarify personal values relating to different management options and outcomes, and proceed through the steps of deliberation and communication with their health care provider [ 8].
Formal agreements between providers, tools for data analysis, deliberation and communication allow information to be analysed in different ways and repackaged for feed back to the patient level to support providers and patients in service improvement and patient self management initiatives.
We will discuss both claims that deliberation and explicit communication are necessary to cooperation and systems that cooperate only through environmental interaction.
