One highlight is an almost operatic setting of a Rosalía de Castro poem, "Lúa Descolorida" ("Colorless Moon"), sung ravishingly by Jessica Rivera.
The Argentine composer Osvaldo Golijov was inspired by the melismatic vocal writing in Couperin's "Leçons de Ténèbres" when composing his evocative "Lúa Descolorida" ("Colorless Moon"), set to a somber Galician text by the poet Rosalía de Castro.
For me the most musically involving sections of this work are those in which Mr. Golijov draws upon elements of Western classical heritage, as in the mesmerizing "Lúa Descolorida" ("Colorless Moon"), which describes Peter's disowning of Jesus.
For their second and final encore they offered what Ms. Upshaw called "the first song that Osvaldo Golijov wrote for me," "Lúa Descolorida" ("Colorless Moon"), an aching lament by a Galician poet, which in this haunting performance was somehow a fitting way to end a tribute to Chopin and Schumann.
