Collection efficiency of an impactor depends on the collection substrates.
The sampler was tested with two different collection substrates and the diffusion distance was varied to determine its effects on sample collection.
Six-stage cascade impactors (TE-236, Tisch Environmental, USA) mounted on other high-volume air samplers (a flow rate of 0.556 min−in− 1) were also used to collect the aerosols separately according to their aerodynamic diameters, with quartz-fiber filters (TE-230QZ, Tisch Environmental, USA and 2500QAT-UP, Pallflex, USA) applied as collection substrates.
After collection, substrates from each stage were weighed; particles were removed by scraping with a spatula and stored at -80°C in vials.
Glass-fiber filters (20 cm × 25 cm) were used as the collection substrates (model EPM2000; Whatman International Ltd., Maidstone, UK) for the single-stage filter sampler.

In electrospinning, electrostatic interaction between charged fibers and the collection substrate can result in poor and non-uniform coverage, particularly when electrically insulating substrates are used, because they are prone to surface charge accumulation.
The passive sampler yielded highly reproducible Rs values and its PAH uptake was shown to be enhanced by using a collection substrate modified with a gas adsorbing coating (Tenax®) which was exclusively addressed being uptake from the gaseous phase.
