A density gradient cell separator is a closed-circuit device that allows PRP preparation without excessive manipulation of the blood [ 44].
Very small (i.e. microliter) blood samples are required, and in some cases are not even removed from the patient because indwelling sensors or a closed circuit extracorporeal sampling device is employed to permit return of the sample to the patient after analysis.
