Closing this session, Dr. Jane Onken (Duke University Medical Center, Durham, North Carolina, USA) discussed stem cell therapy for fibrosis by first enumerating properties that may make them suitable for therapy, such as regulation of the immune system, prevention of scar formation, formation of new vessels, homing to sites of injury and induction of tissue regeneration.
