The present study was developed based on two linear mixed models: a non-genetic model, which accounts for spatial autocorrelation and is used to estimate the effects of competition between neighboring trees into the single clone plots; and a genetic model to infer the nature of the clonal competition.
Right panels show the resulting clonality rate (defined as the fraction of observed clusters consisting of a single clone) plotted as a function of the underlying clone generation rate.
To obtain the bagasse, 20 to 30 of cane stalks (not less than 6 kg) per clone per plot were randomly cut from the experimental field in September 2011 (8-month old plants).
(B ) The eight putative causal mutations were engineered into a wild type laboratory strain (Recreated), which was synchronized and its oscillations were compared to the evolved E6-1 clone by plotting the log(F75/F25), as explained in the legend to Figure 3A.
The size (volume) of individual GFP clones located in the junctional zone (n = 85 in control [ctrl] epidermis; n = 161 in ATRA-treated epidermis), IFE (n = 1184 ctrl, 1525 ATRA), infundibulum (n = 81 ctrl, 152 ATRA), SG (n = 53 ctrl, 80 ATRA), and HF (n = 65 ctrl, 293 ATRA) was determined, and the cumulative frequency distribution of clone sizes was plotted.
For each trait, when data were available for multiple clones per genotype, trait values were averaged across clones in a per plot and per annum basis (i.e. trait values for all clones per genotype in the wet plot in 2006 were averaged).

PCR amplification was performed on cDNA from each plot, but cloning and sequencing of PCR products was performed only on pooled samples (Table S1).
But all four clones followed identical plots and were shot on the same 10-house set, which was built from scratch on the outskirts of Buenos Aires by Pol-Ka, Disney's Argentine partner in the productions.
