Environmental conditions were represented by 10-day climatic data from a climate station located in the study area, and the water level in Balkhash Lake was derived from satellite altimetry observations (T/P/Jason 1).
Climatic data for 21 years were obtained from the Rudolf-Geiger climate station of the Department of Geography in the Faculty of Geoscience at the Ruhr University of Bochum.
The method consists of three steps and can be used for any climate station.
The Fujian climate station (see Fig. 1), near the study area, was selected for this purpose.

As a result, a very large number of sites (>114,000) with 8 dominant soil types and a climatic variability expressed in the data of 5 climate stations (Figure 7) was converted into 175 different data units (35 soil and nFK classes × 5 climate zones) to be processed for each individual year (1981 to 2007).
In addition, locations of the climate stations are indicated.
Present climate data was generated from 50 climate stations within the watershed using co-kriging.
Hourly rainfall data were used at three climate stations respectively located in Singapore, South Korea and Canada.
