The mean current voltage relation for the resulting current showed clear outward rectification, with an observed reversal potential (Erev) for IANION in these experiments of −45.7 ± 2.2 mV (obtained by pooling Erev values from individual experiments).
From Fig. 7, it is clear that no rectification was observed since the current was found under the applied voltage.
The current density-voltage characteristic of the resulting device exhibits clear rectifying behavior, with a rectification factor of 3 × 103 at V = ±1 V.
In traditional optical rectification, light's electric field causes positive and negative charges to be pulled apart in a material.
Following one hour preincubation of oocytes with 100 µM DTT, these features disappeared (at +40 mV, Iinst/Imax ratio = 0.1±0.01; n = 11, p<0.01) and I227C channels regained the properties of clear voltage dependence and outward-rectification (Figure 4B and C, upper inset).
From these data, it is clear that these misconceptions are deeply rooted, and their rectification requires more effort than was given here despite being directly dealt with via class discussions and problem-based exercises.
