Additionally, a global dataset with 432 profiles with various soil classes, drainage types, land use, and altitude was also used to test the generality of the new model.

In order to derive overall temporal trends, we fit a similar model to eq. 1 but omitted the drainage class year interaction (β6).
The responses of relative growth rate and net biomass change to calendar year differed significantly among drainage classes, while calendar year trends related to mortality did not differ significantly (Table 2).
