To evaluate the diagnostic performance of the retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thickness deviation map imaged by a spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (OCT; Cirrus HD-OCT, Carl Zeiss Meditec Inc, Dublin, CA) and compare its sensitivity and specificity for glaucoma detection with circumpapillary RNFL measurement derived from the standard 3.46 mm diameter circle scan.
Forty-two RRMS and 17 SPMS patients with and without history of uni- or bilateral ON, and 59 age- and sex-matched healthy controls were analysed prospectively with the high resolution spectral-domain OCT device (SD-OCT) using the Spectralis 3.5mm circle scan protocol with locked reference images and eye tracking mode.
The enlarged, averaged circle scan has sufficient detail so that these errors can be identified.
The RNFL thickness was also determined using the same peripapillary circle scan.
After scrutinising the averaged circle scan image, the RNFL thickness plots should be examined.
The high-quality peripapillary image produced by the circle scan was qualitatively analysed as described in the Results.
