The Child Friendly Rooms developed as part of this joint programme with BiH institutions are setting an example for other countries in the region to follow.
Within the Project "Protection of Children at Risk and Children in Contact with the Justice System in BiH" specially equipped child friendly rooms suitable for children in contact with the law have been opened in all nine targeted municipalities.
As part of the programme, in collaboration with Ministries of Interior, and based on good practices, 16 police stations and two police academies were equipped with child friendly rooms in BiH.
As part of a broader programme on juvenile justice, UNICEF has been preventing violence, promoting alternatives to detention and supporting the establishment of child friendly rooms in police stations in nine municipalities.
This was achieved through the implementation of specific prevention programmes organized together with schools; establishment of child friendly rooms in police stations facilitating more reliable and less traumatizing interrogations of juveniles, the development and implementation of alternative measures to detention which focus on reintegrating juveniles into society.

As well as supporting these projects, UNICEF has also contributed towards helping to build and equip new malnutrition and paediatric wards and a child-friendly room at the hospital where children can learn of their HIV status.
