Lynch traveled to the Tanzania in 2004 to help train African prosecutors for the court and return against in 2005, when Rapp was chief of prosecution at the tribunal, to act as a special prosecutor in a case that saw the conviction of a prosecution witness who had been intimidating fellow witnesses into recanting their testimony.
Mr. Alonso works in Brooklyn as an assistant United States attorney and deputy chief of special prosecutions for the Eastern District of New York.
"Human trafficking really is a form of organized crime," said Jack Blakey, chief of the special prosecutions bureau in the Cook County State's Attorney's office.
In the late 1950's and early 1960's, he held posts in the Department of Justice in Washington, including the post of special attorney in the Attorney General's group on organized crime, before becoming an assistant United States attorney in the Southern District of New York, where he became chief of the special prosecutions division.
"The closer you are to what the main problems here are going to be -- misleading investors, misleading employees, destroying evidence -- the more likely you are to be in the gunsights," said Michael J. Shepard, former chief of the special prosecutions division in the United States attorney's office in Chicago and now a partner at Heller Ehrman White & McAuliffe in San Francisco.
After graduating from New York University Law School and several years in California, she became an Assistant District Attorney in Robert Morgengthau's office in Manhattan for 18 years, rising to become deputy chief of the special prosecutions bureau and assistant deputy chief of the investigation division, specializing in the investigation of complex white collar crimes.
"I am frustrated and disappointed," said Rosanne Froeberg, chief of sex crimes prosecution in the Orange County district attorney's office.
The idea received the backing of Nazir Afzal, chief of the Crown Prosecution Service in the North West, who reopened the case into Shafilea's murder.
