Ahmed Wali Karzai, the powerful half-brother of the Afghan president, Hamid Karzai, has been killed by one of his security guards inside his own house in Kandahar, according to the local chief of border police.
Afghan policemen then killed Ezatullah, the chief of border police in eastern Afghanistan, Gen Aminullah Amarkhel, said.
Thomas Schreiber, the chief of United States border protection in Blaine, Wash., said that Mr. Long had been sent to his border crossing rather than the main crossing at the Pacific Highway to avoid a demonstration against the Canadian removal order.

Roy Bermudez, assistant police chief of the border city of Nogales, told the Arizona Republic that "we have not, thank God, witnessed any spillover violence from Mexico".

She attracted worldwide attention last year when she became police chief of a border town plagued by drug violence after no-one else dared take the job.
