The Indian syllables ṣa, ṛi, ga, ma, pa, dha, ni are similar, as are the Balinese ding, dong, deng, dung, dang; the ancient five-note Chinese scale kung, shang, chiao, chih, yü; and the Korean tŏng, tung, tang, tong, ting; and rŏ, ru, ra, ro, ri (the two sets being used for different instruments).
His ideas on Taoist ritual were especially influential in the articulation of the common Taoist "fasting," or chia, rites and of the liturgies, or chiao, of communal renewal.
The expansive menu features amok (fish cooked in young coconut, $12.95) and banh chiao (ground chicken and bean sprout crepe, $10.95).
Chiao worries there is little prospect of candidates who reflect the aspirations of the majority of men or women being elected, however.
"Morale is pretty low," said Leroy Chiao, a former astronaut who now works for a company that wants to offer space flights for tourists.
"It's a dirty scene," says Chiao. "It's not pleasant, it's full of attacking and competition and you can go in with high ideals and just get railroaded by people who are corrupt and have a lot of money to spend on buying votes".
Dr Chiao has performed six spacewalks, in both US and Russian spacesuits, and has logged nearly 230 days in space.
You are going to feel alone," says Chiao. "As we go on these longer missions, the psychosocial part is going to become more and more important".
"To me, it feels like you just did a forward roll," says Chiao of the resulting dizziness and nausea, which can last for days.
Besides, says Chiao, when the Nazra Feminist Studies Centre tried to meet candidates to talk to them about women's issues, many simply did not show up: "That speaks volumes about how interested they are in women's rights".
A study of 54 one-month-old cuttlefish hatched in captivity was carried out by Tsang-I Yang and Chuan-Chin Chiao, researchers at the National Tsing Hua University in Taiwan.
