17 Other factors that are possibly associated with the effectiveness of a tailored counselling programme could be patient's characteristics (eg, diagnosis and stage of behavioural change) and characteristics of the programme (eg, total duration of consultations, extent to which Motivational Interviewing (MI) is applied and treatment form under which the programme is offered).
Characteristics of the programme also influence the decision of older people to participate 40 51 and point to several other possible levers for increasing participation (such as provision of free transportation to the exercise premises, as suggested by some of the non-starters and early dropouts in our study).
