The core variables of this study (risk perception and sense of place) are referenced to that article, while the core theme of this study is to analyze the characteristics of disaster preparedness of farming households and explore the relationship of risk perception and sense of place to the disaster preparedness of farming households.
It helps to understand the characteristics of disaster damage, provides an objective assessment of the social impacts of disasters, helps to guide rescue and relief operations, and forms the basis for the planning of recovery and reconstruction in disaster regions, as well as for the development of plans to prevent and mitigate future disasters.

Twigg's (2007) Characteristics of Disaster Resilient Communities framework is informed by the five priority actions of the Hyogo Framework for Action 2005 2015 (governance, risk assessment, knowledge and education, risk management and vulnerability reduction, and disaster preparedness and response), which enables a holistic overview of resilient communities.
Information on characteristics of disaster victims and data regarding the time, place, circumstances and mechanism of disaster-related mortality and morbidity during the immediate and secondary post-impact phase are useful not only for needs assessment and planning, but also for evaluation of relief programmes to inform future disaster responses (Guha-Sapir and Vogt 2009).
