Our three methods of character scoring did yield largely compatible results in our analyses.
In deference to the possibility that some families might not be monophyletic, however, we took a more conservative, genus-level approach to larval character scoring.

Nine skull characters were added to this dataset [2], [11], [13], resulting in a data matrix of 246 characters scored across 33 taxa (Text S2).
Following exclusion of characters 100, 212 and 237 (for the reasons given above and in Text S2), the resultant matrix comprised 242 characters scored for 33 taxa (Text S3).
