When only those trials which reported clear R0 resections were taken into account, the HR for RFS in the HAI subgroup did not fundamentally change (HR, 0.81; 95% CI, 0.67-1.00) compared with all five trials in this subgroup.
Collectively, these observations question the utility of gauging baroreflex strength via the ability to change HR since if these changes in HR are ineffective in changing CO, then these responses do not contribute to arterial pressure regulation.
Passive exercise did not change HR throughout the experimental period.
