If you were born in Hawaii and request a copy of your birth certificate, you get a certification of live birth, which the federal government accepts for passports.
In part, this was because instead of saying "birth certificate" on top, it said "certification of live birth" and it was a printout of a computer record, rather than something bearing the scrawl of an obstetrician.
By arguing, for example, that a "certification of live birth" is not the same thing as a birth certificate, and also that there has been a massive, multifarious conspiracy.
Instead of a "certification" of live birth, this was a "certificate," clearly recording that the president was born on Aug. 4, 1961 in the Kapiolani Maternity and Gynecological Hospital in Honolulu.
So when questions about Mr. Obama's birth first surfaced during the 2008 presidential election, his campaign posted a copy of his "certification of live birth" on a Web site; it states that Barack Hussein Obama II was born in Honolulu on Aug. 4, 1961, at 7 24 p.m.
"I want him to show his birth certificate!" Mr. Trump said on "The View," despite the fact that the president has indeed produced a certification of live birth showing he was born in Honolulu.
In response, the Obama campaign scanned the candidate's "certification of live birth" from Hawaii's department of health and published it on the Internet.
The Obama campaign ultimately responded by releasing a "certification of live birth," an official document from the Hawaii Department of Health, and posting it online.
Just this week, on the news program "Good Morning America" on ABC, George Stephanopoulos produced a copy of the president's Certification of Live Birth, causing a potential presidential aspirant, Michele Bachmann, the Republican congresswoman from Minnesota, to say that the issue appeared settled.
This date is on the Certification of Live Birth released by the Hawaii Department of Health last year at the request of Obama.
