Left eigenvector centrality, the extent to which installations were connected to other highly connected structures, varied strongly across years.
Centrality, the extent to which a given individual is connected to others in a network, is the structural property most often associated with instrumental outcomes, including power (Moschitz and Stolze 2009) and innovation (Spielman et al. 2011).
Central actors will be identified by mean degree (number of ties as a proportion of the number of actors), global centrality (the most connected actors within the network) 78 and betweenness centrality (the extent to which an actor lies between actors that would not otherwise be connected).

In the wider scope of graph theory, we can also regard node degree as one measure that characterizes centrality, or the extent to which a node is located near a central position in its relationships to other nodes.
Betweenness centrality measures the extent to which a node mediates relationships between other nodes by its position along the geodesics within the network.
The stress centrality measures the extent to which a node can hold network communications.
(2) Degree centrality measures the extent of influence that a node has on the network.
Betweenness centrality measures the extent to which the actor of interest lies between other actors that are not themselves linked.
Betweenness centrality measures the extent to which a vertex lies on the paths between the others and, as a consequence, the extent to which the node influences the information flow in the network [ 78].
In the work presented here, we propose a new centrality metric called leverage centrality that considers the extent of connectivity of a node relative to the connectivity of its neighbors.
