The size of the nodes correlates with the individual centrality index.
To illustrate the basic principles of the proposed methods, an ecological study on the European common toad (Bufo bufo) in Stockholm, Sweden is presented, using the betweenness centrality index to capture important stepping-stone structures.
Betweenness centrality is a global centrality index that quantifies the extent that a gene controls the information flow between all pairs of genes in the network.
In the quantitative section, we observed that density and clique indices had risen for some networks; however, the centrality index for the same networks was not as high.
To identify which centralities provide redundant information we compared protein rank orders, based on each centrality index, by adopting the Goodman-Kruskal's lambda [ 35].
(iii) 'Betweenness', which is similar to stress as a topological network property, provides a more informative and elaborated centrality index as it measures how frequently the shortest path, connecting every pair of nodes, is going through a third given node.

Although the closeness-rank orders were not totally overlapping, the list of ten most central proteins was conserved across most centrality indices.
First, we calculated centrality indices to identify which key (i.e., most central) species must be considered when designing strategies for sustainable resource management.
Centrality indices are quantifications of the fact that some nodes/edges are more central or more important in a network than others [28].
The goal of these network centrality measures is to numerically characterize the importance of proteins in the biological system since centrality indices are used to quantify the nodes or edges that are more central than others.
