If >50% of fixation points were within 0.5 mm of the foveal center, fixation was classified as central.
If 25 50% of the fixation points were within 0.5 mm of the foveal center, fixation was classified as pericentral.
If <25% of fixation points were within 0.5 mm of foveal center, fixation was classified as eccentric.
Each stimulus was projected for 300 ms at center fixation.
The stimuli were randomly jittered 1° to the left/right of the center fixation cross and the participants performed a one-back location task by pushing one of two buttons randomly assigned with the index fingers of the two hands.

Second, during self-initiated eye movements in the blank condition, we also find a late component of firing rate increase in a situation without any visual stimulation (center fixations).
