To see whether Ubx prevents the death of CCAP-ENs by counteracting a possible action of the anterior-most HOX genes in promoting apoptosis of the CCAP-ENs, we stained for CCAP in mutants of labial (lab / lab ), proboscipedia (pb ), Deformed (Dfd ), Sex combs reduced (Scr ) and Antennapedia (Antp / Antp ), but did not observe any phenotype (supplementary material Fig. S3A-E).
