Ernest Augustus studied at Göttingen, entered the Hanoverian army, and served as a leader of cavalry when war broke out between Great Britain and France in 1793.
Battles were fought mostly by hordes of foot soldiers, most of them commoners, aided by cavalry units; war chariots apparently served only auxiliary roles, probably as mobile commanding platforms or perhaps as carriers.

It houses Civil War cavalry artifacts such as pistols, swords, saddles, artillery shells, clothing, and a variety of items that were owned by both Stuart and Mosby, museum curator Howard Crouch said.
The Stuart-Mosby Civil War Cavalry Museum, 13938 Braddock Rd. in Centreville, opened in late October and is operated by a nonprofit group hoping to make it a sought-after destination.
