In later stages, a carcinoid resembles a mural contrast-enhancing mass extending into the adjacent mesentery, causing a soft-tissue density mass, often with spiculated margins due to the desmoplastic reaction.
This may sometimes cause confusion with a soft tissue tumour, especially if the lesion has evolved to a chronic organising haematoma with heterogeneous signal on T2-WI and patchy internal enhancement [28].
