Composed of three islands (Cagarra, Palmas and Comprida) and four islets, the archipelago has recently been raised to a more restrictive category of conservation unit.
Thus, the group is highly susceptible to habitat destruction, and at least 10 species are listed under some category of conservation threat, ranging from rare to critically endangered (VV.AA. 2000; Martín et al. 2008; Bañares et al. 2011; Table 2).

This implies that regardless of the conservation category of the TFBS, advantageous mutations have predominantly risen to alter transcriptional activity of genes that already have multiple isoforms.
In general, transcript sequences from venom glands have been used in various types of analysis: expression of different transcript categories, conservation of mature sequences, genomic organization and approaching the diversification of toxin families by gene codon usage.
