In this article, we test whether annual/perennial habit affects rates of divergence by comparing both relative rates of molecular evolution and categorical branch length differences in 16 independent annual/perennial species pairs.
Scanning electron micrographs were obtained from each condition, and RA was quantified using a novel technique called the categorical chord-length distribution (CCLD), which enables microstructural quantification based on specific neighboring microconstituents.
