At least in Dieks's original intentions, however, the approach was meant to provide an attractive interpretation of quantum mechanics also in the case of decoherence interactions, since at least in simple models of decoherence the same kind of decomposition singles out more or less also those states between which interference is suppressed (with a proviso about very degenerate states).
The minimum Λ we can distinguish experimentally from the case of no decoherence is: Lambda> Lambda_{mathrm{min}} = 3 m^{2} frac{sigma w_{s}(t)}{sqrt{N-1} hbar^{2} t^{3}}.
In Figure 5, we plot the corresponding visibilities for the quantum and the classical case in the absence of decoherence.
In the case of continuous models of decoherence based on the analogy of approximate joint measurements of position and momentum, one can do even better.
"In all of the cases studied, decoherence behaves as predicted by theory," Dr. Zurek said.
For the case of phase damping decoherence, a larger sampling period is given when the lower bound of the target coherence is large enough.
For the case of amplitude damping decoherence, a larger sampling period is presented when the upper bound of the probability of failure is small enough.
As said above, in the case of the MHI decoherence is not explicitly appealed to in order to account for the definite reading of the apparatus' pointer (neither in ideal nor in non-ideal measurements).
The two lines show the prediction of the minimum CSL parameter (lambda_{mathrm{min}}) discernible from the case of no decoherence - for the cases of a test particle of fused silica (solid, black) and of Hafnia ((mathrm{HfO_{2}}), blue, dashed).
Even in this case, however, decoherence is of crucial importance, since the dynamical evolution of the minds will have a physical correlate only if the corresponding physical components are decohered (Felline and Bacciagaluppi 2011).
