Contact isolation precautions with protective gowns and gloves were applied for proven cases of carriage or infection with A. baumannii or MRSA, as well as for patients infected with carbapenem-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa or Klebsiella pneumoniae [ 23].
But after a year of chasing properties throughout Brooklyn -- one step behind the developers, or a bid too low in the case of a carriage house they loved and lost -- they found themselves facing an elegant, though pigeon-infested, former ice house that, at 14,000 square feet, was somewhat bigger than their idea of home sweet home.
However, the differences between the age groups were statistically significant only in the case of oropharyngeal carriage.
In the case of S. pneumoniae, carriage ranges from 10% to 40% in an age dependent manner [6], with a lower percentage of multiple strains in the same sample [7].
In a double-blind, placebo-controlled RCT in Switzerland, 58 hospitalized patients with intestinal carriage with ESBL-producing Enterobacteriaceae (in absence of infection) received either SDD (enteral colistin and neomycin, oral nitrofurantoine for 5 days in case of urinary tract carriage) or placebo [ 19].
It would be important to investigate if it is still the case with shorter durations of carriage.
Based on the much lower rate of acquisition in this exposure class, however, it seems plausible that the amount unobserved exposure is not considerable and that most of these cases pertain to acquisition of carriage from the community.
The observed ratios of carriage between cases from multiple-case families and population controls do not estimate relative risks in sense a or b since one does not know the rate of carriage in group C in Figure 1 and the usual Bayes' theorem calculation does not apply.
HCV positive patients with NHL (11.9%) were very similar to CHC patients; in this case the carriage of TT genotype was not significantly different.
Of these 11 were for the elimination of carriage in cases.
