To the Editor: Michael Korda's article "Lodges in Africa That Make a Case for Settling In" (May 7) rang true with my own experiences.
The review of Lori Gottlieb's "Marry Him: The Case for Settling for Mr. Good Enough" (Feb. 14) never asks an important question: What is so bad about ending up alone?
"There's a woman in my book who ruled out a guy for a second date because he ordered tap water — she thought it indicated he was cheap," said Ms. Gottlieb, 43, the author of "Marry Him: The Case for Settling for Mr. Good Enough".
This belief — which for so long, as Ms. Bolick notes, was an article of faith for boomers and post-boomers — has been under siege for about a decade now, from sources as varied as the very reactionary Dr. Laura and the very thoughtful Lori Gottlieb (whose 2010 best-seller Marry Him: The Case for Settling for Mr. Good Enough also began as an Atlantic cover story).
