CA distribution within the NF, however, is not uniform and the NF still contains unenhanced areas.

As horizontal gene transfer has been suggested as an important driver for CRISPR-Cas dispersal (Fonfara et al. 2013), we have performed an in-depth analysis of CRISPR-Cas distribution in C. jejuni and C. coli, as these two related but distinct species are supposed to have experienced recent gene flows due to a partially shared ecology (Sheppard et al. 2008, 2013).
