Cassiopeia A, abbreviated Cas A, is the remnant of a supernova explosion caused by the collapse of a massive star.
Following its launch into Earth orbit in July 1999, the Chandra X-ray Observatory (named in honour of the astrophysicist Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar) was trained on a number of supernova remnants, including Cassiopeia A (Cas A), the remnant of a star that exploded in 1680.
Like all massive stars, Cas A once consisted of concentric shells of material.
Chandra's quarry was a supernova remnant called Cassiopeia A (Cas A), about 11,000 light-years away.
Likewise, it can't go on forever because Cas A would get far colder than neutron stars generally do.

Spatially-resolved X-ray spectroscopic observations over the past several years have led to the discovery of non-thermal X-ray emission arising in the shells of most young Galactic supernova remnants, most notably SN 1006 and Cas A. In addition, the X-ray emission from the shells of a few newly-discovered supernova remnants is dominated by a non-thermal component.
We extended this approach to predict CRMs in the four other insect genomes— An. gam, T. cas, A. mel, and N. vit by using the trained models from Drosophila CRMs to scan each of these target genomes separately.
