This work is an endeavor for the cultivation of some green algae using cheap carbon source (wheat bran) when treated with some fungi for increasing soluble-reducing content.
The experiment was conducted using 20 L glass aquaria with two sources of carbon, namely, wheat flour and sweet potato flour.

Two different substrates were thus obtained, to serve as carbon sources: i) "raw" wheat straw (RWS) and ii) heat-treated (torrefied) wheat straw (TWS).
In the worst case, some of the solid carbon sources such as wheat straw and sawdust are potentially releasing nitrogen compounds via leaching, giving rise to the secondary pollution (Zhang et al. 2012).
Also, genes associated with conidiation (brlA, ctcB) were expressed in both of these conditions, suggesting that the fungus experiences carbon starvation during later wheat straw degradation.
