BLASTn analysis of capsule genes with no identity to other known C. jejuni genes in both 01/51 and 01/10 returned high identity hits to CPS genes in C. jejuni subsp. doylei and C. lari (Fig. 3).
Despite the fact that hyperinvasive strains are only distantly related based on the whole genome phylogeny, they all possess genes within the capsule region with high identity to capsule genes from C. jejuni subsp. doylei and C. lari.
The derived amino acid sequences from csiA, B, and E/cskA, B, and E shared >70% sequence identity with capsule biosynthesis proteins belonging to Mannheimia haemolytica serotype A1.
BLASTp searches of the deduced amino acid sequence from cslA predicted a capsule phosphotransferase sharing 73% sequence identity with LcbA proteins from N. mucosa C102 (GenBank accession no. ACRG00000000) and N. subflava NJ9703 (GenBank accession no. ACEO00000000), whereas cslC encoded an acetyltransferase protein.
The serogroup B capsule is poorly immunogenic due to identity with human antigens 22 and is not a component of meningococcal conjugate vaccines.
Particularly, the loss of the structural identity of the lens capsule and lens epithelium adhesion occurs in embryonic eyes, and they are more severe in adult.
4. For many bacterial species there are thousands of different strains (called serovars, for serological variants), which differ from one another mainly or solely in the antigenic identity of their lipopolysaccharide, flagella, or capsule.
Isolates that had the same serovar as the reference strain based on a blast match of greater than 90% of the length of the capsule locus and greater than 80% of the identity were considered as a match.
The former has minimal similarity to other proteins in the non-redundant database, while the latter is similar (33% identity, E value of 10-37) to a capsule biosynthesis protein from Bacillus thuringiensis.
The reference strain with the best match was based on highest visible identity in ACT across the entirety of the capsule locus.
