The steady increase in population growth and food demand and the continuous reduction in cultivated land per capita induce steady intensification of fertilizer application worldwide.
On one side, the shrinkage in family per capita income inducing the consumer to spend less on luxury goods (like cars); on the other one, the high upkeep of cars because of a sharp increase in the cost of fuel, of insurance as well as of road tax, particularly in some European countries (like Italy).
Taken at face value, therefore, a 1% increase in GDP (whether per capita or not) in 2015 induced an increase by 2% in industrial energy consumption (whether per capita or not), a 1.32% increase in transport, 1.3% in buildings and 3.16% increase in the non-energy sector.
